Florida BOE Summer Fellowship Program

The Florida Board of Education (BOE) summer fellowship program is an outstanding opportunity for newly admitted minority and first generation graduate students to become acquainted with UF. Participants receive a $1,500 stipend, a tuition waiver to enroll in four credit hours of Summer B Semester graduate coursework counting towards their degrees and non-credit preparatory courses in graduate level research and writing,.

Program Objectives

The objectives of the BOE Summer Fellowship Program are:

(1) To provide academic development opportunities so students can enrich their knowledge of research, statistics, and writing.

(2) To foster supportive relationships amongst participants, advisors, faculty and staff.

(3) To acclimate participants to the local and university community.

(4) To familiarize participants with university offices and resources.

Eligibility

The BOE program is open to any student accepted into a University of Florida graduate program for the fall semester and meets at least one of the following requirements:
— An ethnic or cultural minority
— Low-income status
— First generation college graduate
— Underrepresented in their field of study

Students must be US citizens or permanent residents.

Program Requirements

Participants must complete the following requirements while in the program:

(1) Six hours a week of not-for-credit academic and professional development courses.

(2) Four hours of coursework from their department (funded by the BOE Program) to earn towards their degree.

(3) Additional social events (planned by BOE Program).

(4) At least one community service activity (planned by the BOE Program).
